Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s decision to not prosecute police officers in the Breonna Taylor shooting has resulted in threats against him, his wife, and his family. As a result, Cameron has hired additional security for his protection. Cameron’s decision to not prosecute was a result of following the facts and the law. Yet some protestors continue to demand a result based on emotion that departs from the law and facts. Threats of violence against our leaders for making unpopular decisions is vigilantism and strikes against the rule of law. This ultimately threatens public safety. Such threats may be common in banana republics but under the rule of law, they should not be an issue in a nation that aspires to peace, justice, and settling conflict through legal means instead of violence.
