The Boy Scouts are dropping the word "boy" from their name and will now simply be called Scouts BSA. It's the latest in a series of changes that moves the Boy Scouts further from their original mission which was to shape young boys into men. The Boy Scouts began with the idea that there is a difference between the sexes and that young boys could learn outdoors skills and civic responsibility better in an all-male environment. But this is the same reason the Girl Scouts began. They offer an all-female environment that helped young girls develop into women. Neither is better than the other but they imply a difference between the sexes. And the Boy Scout name change is only confusing young boys who are trying to grasp what it means to be man.
