Americans no longer share a common moral reference point. On one side of the political divide are those who believe that abortion should be protected by law, gender is determined by individuals, and illegal immigrants have a right to be here. On the other side of the political aisle are those who believe that human life should be protected in all its stages, gender is determined by our Creator and that illegal aliens aren't entitled to the same privileges as citizens. There's little middle ground on any of these issues. Perhaps it's because we live in a so called post-truth age which was the word of the year in 2016. And we're learning that when there's no fixed definition of truth, no shared objective standard, not only is there disagreement in the public arena, but real people are hurt in the process.
