Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced the Green New Deal whose goal is to end fossil fuel use in 10 years. The deal also aims to make every existing building more energy efficient; expand electric car manufacturing, and build "charging stations everywhere,"  expand high-speed rail to "a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary." It also includes many other ambitious goals including health care for all. The goal for a cleaner environment and better health for all is a worthy goal but is big government the way to achieve this? We know that nations with powerful top-down governmental control end up restricting freedom and work against human nature and market forces—two things that must be considered before any new policy is pursued. In theory the Green New Deal may be appealing, but such deals are incompatible with America's ideals.
