As COVID-19 swept Kentucky, Gov. Beshear shut down many businesses and attempted to shut down in-person church services. These controversial moves led four Kentuckians to petition for the impeachment of the Governor, as they believe his actions were unconstitutional. Speaker of the House David Osborne said he’d follow the law and form an impeachment committee to review these charges. At the same time, the legislature has moved to reduce the power of the governor during a state of emergency to 30 days. While we may disagree with the inconsistent and arbitrary actions by Gov. Beshear, charges of impeachable acts must be supported with facts. And because we value the law over our personal policy preferences, successfully impeaching Gov. Beshear is a long shot.
