U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have recommended that all health care facilities reschedule elective surgeries until after the COVID-19 pandemic slows. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has followed the advisement with one exception. Beshear has allowed EMW Women’s Clinic to remain open. This has drawn criticism from those who see this as inconsistent with other health care facilities that are temporarily forced to close. It’s also drawn criticism in the effort to practice social distancing amidst the COVID scare. Several other states have ordered abortion centers to close. With pressure on the governor, including by legislators, it is possible that Kentucky follows suit.
