Is it ok to stage a mock assassination of the president in public? There should be a very easy answer to this. However, a democratic state senator from Illinois thought it was ok at a recent fundraiser. Sen. Martin Sandoval, whose senate district covers part of Chicago, recently came under fire after pictures showed up of his supporters acting out a mock assassination of President Trump. One of them pointed an automatic weapon at another person in a Trump mask who clutched his chest and simulated being shot. Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker condemned the actions, “because they lack the civility our politics demands.” He’s right. Our political leaders should model civility, especially when too many resort to violence. Sandoval released a statement shortly afterward and apologized for the incident he called “unacceptable.”
