Pope Francis publicly endorsed civil unions—the legal recognition of homosexual couples. This is the first time Frances has recommended homosexual relationships to be recognized by the government and its causing a stir amongst the Catholic community. Catholic teaching has always held that marriage as between one man and one woman is of divine origin. It’s an idea rooted in the Bible and one embraced by Protestants as well.  Frances asserted “Homosexual people have a right to be in a family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out or be made miserable over it….”  Critics contend that no man, even the Pope can change God’s definition of marriage and family.  The Pope made the remarks in a newly released documentary called “Francesco.”
