During times of crisis, the government can provide leadership, but it cannot do everything. It needs help from the private sector. Consider that the American businesses are responding well to address the needs of the coronavirus pandemic. The company MyPillow is retooling to make up to 50,000 face masks per day. Another company called Battelle figured out how to sanitize used masks. They’re repurposing up to 160,000 per day. Medtronic is sharing its plans to make ventilators with other companies to make the devices more quickly and at less expense. Uber has pledged to deliver 10 million free meals and rides to health care workers. And Bill Gates is funding seven new factories for the production of coronavirus vaccines. And these efforts by the private sector will no doubt, save lives.
