According the Center for Immigration Studies, Louisville is a sanctuary city. This means that it has policies in place "that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from Immigration and Customs Enforcement" (ICE).  Police in sanctuary cities aren't allowed to cooperate with federal officials when a suspected illegal immigrant is apprehended.  The federal government has cracked down on illegal immigration and an executive order by Pres. Trump has withheld funds to cities that aren't abiding by federal law. But a judge struck down the order. Some say its cruel to crack down on illegal immigrants, reasoning they're just trying to make a better life for themselves here. Yet, opponents of sanctuary cities say that when the law isn't upheld, it makes a mockery of the rule of law and in the end we end up in places that aren't safe for anyone.
