Teachers from across the commonwealth are gathering at Kentucky’s Capitol today to protest a bill they say will hurt public schools. The bill they object to (HB 563) makes it easier for parents to send their kids to another public school district they believe is a better fit for their child. It also allows the creation of a scholarship program for low and middle-income students and its funded by private dollars. The KEA says that this takes money away from public education. But is this the really the case? The bill intends to give parents another educational option for their child. Putting all things aside, isn’t a child’s educational success regardless of where they attend school, something that everyone should be in favor of?
