The presidential election has stirred great animosity in our country. 65 percent of Republicans still think Pres. Biden was not legitimately elected. One contributor to this division was Pres. Trump’s campaign lawyer Sidney Powell who argued that Dominion voting systems conspired with Venezuela, Cuba, and China to rig the election against Pres. Trump. But after convincing millions without any evidence, she is now facing a lawsuit and financial consequences. As a result, Powell is backpedaling her comments. Her lawyer released a statement saying “no reasonable person would conclude that [Powell’s] statements were truly statements of fact.” Really? There’s a lesson here. Our words matter. And making claims of election fraud without evidence have dire consequences, both for the purveyor and the nation at large.
