Consider how the news media has contributed to this fear-frenzy. Time’s stories last week were entitled: Scared to Return to Work Amid COVID-19? Here Are Your Options, Rural America Is at Risk as COVID-19 Is About to Hit, and COVID-19 Threatens Millions of People Worldwide With Hunger. Fear is a commodity in a time of national crisis. It garners interest and attention and sells advertising. And it’s something to be fought against. There’s a Biblical passage that says that God doesn’t give His people a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and a sound mind (I Tim 1:7). It’s a good admonition for us today.
