The Boy Scouts are now accepting girls into their ranks. Which makes us wonder, if they should drop the word "boy" from their name. This latest change is reflective of the gender-blurring in our society where differences between male and female have been minimized. It's also an indication of just how seriously the Scouts have lost their way and their original mission to train boys to become men. And this is best done in a single-gender environment. Boys need to have a safe environment where their natural talents and tendencies can be affirmed and encouraged. They also need positive male role models. Gender matters not only to the organization that's defined by gender, but it matters to the children who are trying to figure out what is means to be a boy in the first place.
