One of the things that sets the U.S. apart from all other nations is that we enjoy religious freedom. But religious freedom is increasingly under attack—most notably by U.S. Senators involving confirmation hearings. Sen. Diane Feinstein grilled judicial nominee Amy Coney Barrett over her Christian convictions. Feinstein said “the conclusion one draws [from your speeches] is that the dogma lives loudly within you.”
Barrett was guilty of telling law school graduates "[I]f you can keep in mind that your fundamental purpose in life is not to be a lawyer, but to know, love, and serve God, you truly will be a different kind of lawyer.” Now U.S. Senators should realize such words and beliefs are protected by our Constitution and they cross a line when they try to marginalize potential judges for holding religious beliefs.
