Merriam-Webster announced that the word of the year is justice. They chose this word because of the spike in web searches seeking the definition of justice. The interest in the meaning of justice stems from the MeToo Movement, the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation and the Russia election-meddling probe. Every human heart longs for justice and righteousness. In other words we want things to be set right in the world. The idea of justice presumes that something is wrong. Crime, violence and corruption are all the result of sin and the fallen state of our humanity. When there is no check on our sin, other people suffer. The good news is that we just celebrated the One who brings justice to society and righteousness to each of us. And his name is Jesus.
