Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden stirred controversy when his sent a Tweet supporting transgender rights. Biden said “Let’s be clear: Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time. There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.” Biden’s Tweet drew backlash from supporters of Title IX protections that gave girls an equal opportunity in high school sports. A bill in Kentucky that protects girls sports from transgender athletes is now under fire by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. The powerful lobbying group that supports business interests is opposed to SB 114 —the Save Women’s Sports Act. The bill preserves girls’ high school sports by preventing transgender boys from joining. The Chamber seems concerned about the perception some might have of Kentucky. But maybe they should be more concerned about preserving fairness for Kentucky’s female athletes.
